Once you have completed the PCB design in Fusion 360, the next step is to export the necessary production files for PCB manufacturing. This tutorial will guide you through the process of exporting Gerber and Drill files from Autodesk Fusion 360.

This guide uses the demo board example in Fusion 360, titled “Air_Quality_Sensor.”

In Fusion 360, there are three methods to export Gerber files: CAM Preview, CAM Processor, and Export Gerber, NC Drill, Assembly, and Drawing Outputs. The following image illustrates these options:

Method One: Using “CAM Preview” to Start the Export

• Select “MANUFACTURING” -> “MANUFACTURING” -> “CAM Preview”

• The Manufacturing Preview window will open. Next, click the “CAM Processor” button located in the bottom-right corner, as shown in the image below.

• When the CAM Processor window appears, click the document icon next to the CAM file name. Choose “Load CAM jobs” -> “examples” and select the appropriate CAM file for your design. For a 2-layer board, select “example_2_layer.cam.”

• On the left panel of the window, select “Gerber” and keep the Output Type set to the default “Gerber RS-274X”. Click the “Process Job” button in the bottom-right corner, then choose the folder where you’d like to save the files.

• The resulting files will appear as follows:

Method Two: Using “CAM Processor” to Start the Export

• Select “MANUFACTURING” -> “MANUFACTURING” -> “CAM Processor”

After clicking this option, the CAM Processor window will appear. The steps that follow are identical to those in Method One.

Method Three: Using “Export Gerber, NC Drill, Assembly and Drawing Outputs” to Start the Export

• Select “MANUFACTURING” -> “MANUFACTURING” -> “Export Gerber, NC Drill, Assembly and Drawing Outputs”

• After selecting this option, the CAM Export File List window will open, showing various files such as profile, copper, soldermask, solderpaste, drill files, and more — all of which are Gerber files.

• Click “OK”, select the destination where you want to save the files, then click “Save”. The Gerber files will then be exported and saved accordingly.

• A ZIP archive containing all the necessary PCB Gerber files will be created.

• To view the contents of the ZIP folder, right-click on the ZIP file and extract all the files.

You have now completed the process of generating Gerber and drill files using Autodesk Fusion 360.
