The first KiCon 2019 was held on April 26th and 27th in Chicago, IL, USA. This conference is dedicated to users and enthusiasts of KiCad, a popular PCB design software. As WellCircuits is closely involved with KiCad, we were proud to sponsor the event and show our support.
The conference lasted two days, featuring engineers and makers who shared their experiences and success stories using KiCad in various fields such as manufacturing, research, and business. This event gathered power users of KiCad to discuss how they utilize the tool daily and exchange valuable knowledge with others.
Michael Ossmann, engineer and founder of Great Scott Gadgets, delivered an insightful talk titled “Cautionary Tales From The History Of Secrecy.” Drawing from examples like the Boeing 737 Max crashes, the discovery of penicillin, and historical technological secrets, he emphasized that open-source tools like KiCad are vital for progress, preventing us from remaining in a world dominated by dangerous secrecy.
