Meshinger is an innovative, handheld wireless router featuring a built-in battery, eInk display, SD card slot, and a Q10 Blackberry-style keyboard. This device runs on an open-source platform, based on OpenWRT, enabling compatibility with existing OpenWRT packages. Its open architecture empowers users to hack, customize, and develop new applications, making Meshinger a powerful platform for mesh networking, app development, and encrypted communication.

The device comes pre-loaded with a demo messenger application that leverages the 802.11s mesh protocol for secure, end-to-end encrypted messaging. Notably, Meshinger can provide mesh-based communication without the need for traditional network infrastructure, offering an independent and secure communication channel.

Meshinger offers two key functionalities: offline mesh messaging and serving as a portable, single-unit wireless router.

Offline Mesh Messaging is especially valuable in remote regions where conventional network infrastructure is unavailable. It also proves critical in urban environments where existing networks may be disrupted, blocked, or intentionally shut down.

The pocket-sized OpenWRT router is an essential tool for penetration testers and cybersecurity professionals. With the ability to run a broad range of OpenWRT security tools—such as the Wifi Pineapple—on this portable device, professionals no longer need to carry an additional laptop or smartphone for testing.

Thanks to the open-source development model, developers can leverage Meshinger’s platform to build custom applications that utilize capabilities unique to OpenWRT, such as the 802.11s mesh protocol and advanced features of a full Wi-Fi chipset, which are typically not available on mobile devices.
