1. Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) serve as pivotal components within electronic products today and are poised to become even more indispensable in the future of the electronics market.

2. PCB production has evolved significantly since their inception in the 1950s; they are now ubiquitous in nearly all consumer electronics, medical devices, and scientific instruments.

3. Essentially, there are three main types of printed circuit board (PCB) structures: flex, rigid-flex, and rigid.

4. The increasing demand for smaller, more cost-effective, and faster motherboards has presented a challenge for PCB designers.

5. They must now diversify their approach in board construction to meet these evolving requirements.
According to a 2010 study conducted by the United States Bureau of Industry and Security, participants representing all aspects of the electronic component supply chain reported a 250% increase in counterfeit cases between 2005 and 2008. It is estimated that this accounts for an excess of $200 billion globally for semiconductors alone, and this is believed to be only a small portion of the total market.

Counterfeit parts are a significant issue in the electronic manufacturing industry. Many factors have contributed to this problem, particularly global outsourcing and offshore production. The shift of manufacturing from North America and Europe to inexpensive locations around the world has transferred technology knowledge and intellectual property.

Fake components are often synonymous with substandard quality, and therefore represent a decline in performance of electronic devices, and often pose a threat to the public. One way an electronic contract manufacturer can prevent counterfeit parts from entering the supply chain is to only procure from the original part manufacturer or their franchised distributor. Another solution would be for the manufacturer to designate one person on the team to entirely manage and implement procedures to reduce counterfeit components. This employee’s job would be to conduct ongoing component inspection procedures. They would also conduct a thorough audit of all suppliers and require them to adopt security measures against counterfeit parts. If a shipment of counterfeit parts is received from a vendor, an investigation into the matter would be conducted promptly and all future purchases from the vendor would be discontinued.
