Plated half holes (also known as castellated holes) are copper-plated holes made along the edges of printed circuit boards (PCBs) using a specialized process. These holes are primarily used for board-on-board connections, especially when combining two PCBs with different technologies.

By connecting the PCBs directly, the overall system becomes significantly thinner compared to connections using multi-pin connectors. The plated edges also make it easier to produce compact PCB modules.

Plated half holes are available for both standard and advanced PCB services. For standard PCB services, the minimum diameter of castellated holes is 0.6 mm. If smaller castellated holes are required, please contact our sales team for advanced PCB services. Additionally, the minimum distance between two plated half holes is 0.55 mm.

How are plated half holes manufactured? The copper plating is protected from mechanical damage by retracting the copper shell. This allows for precise milling of the plated half holes, significantly improving the reliability of the manufacturing process.
